Hello guys, hope you’re all well! Last weekend saw my first two races of 2018, the Trophée Andros round at Isola 2000. I was able to take my first win on the ice, which is a fantastic way to start off the new year!
After the last round in Andorra I was disappointed with my own performance, finding myself trying too hard which caused mistakes. I relaxed a bit more in the second race, and was able to set the lap record, which was an encouraging sign going forwards.
Last season the Isola track didn’t really suit me, and through trying too hard I made errors, which put me on the back foot. This year, I decided to just build up my speed throughout the weekend.
After reaching the Super Pole for race one, I couldn’t make up many places in the race, as it is very tough to overtake on this technical layout.
I then sat with my engineer and discussed how to further improve my Audi A1 Quattro Ice, and we made some key changes ahead of race two.
The difference was noticeable, as the car was quicker and also easier to drive for both my team-mate and I. In the first qualifying I went more than a second faster than anybody else, before winning the Super Pole. Starting the race from the front, I put in a consistent pace to win by over seven seconds, taking my first Elite Pro victory.
It was a really good feeling to win in the Andros Trophy, a big thanks has to go to the Comtoyou Racing team for their hard work.
Next up is Serre Chevalier this weekend, where we will carry 60kg of performance balance, but we will sure do our best to keep up the winning form.[:fr]
Bonjour à tous et j’espère que vous allez bien !? J’ai disputé ce week-end à Isola 2000 mes deux premières courses de l’année en Trophée Andros. Et j’ai fêté cela en remportant ma première victoire sur glace !
J’ai été très déçu de ma performance en Andorre, je voulais trop en faire et j’ai commis des erreurs. Lors de la deuxième course du week-end, je me suis détendu, réalisant le meilleur ; cela a démontré que nous étions sur la bonne voie !
La saison passée, je n’étais pas un grand fan du tracé d’Isola qui ne me convenait pas vraiment. À trop vouloir en faire, j’ai commis des erreurs qui m’ont mis sur la défensive. Cette année j’avais décidé d’y aller progressivement tout au long du week-end et cela a payé.
Après avoir été en Super Pole pour la course 1, je ne suis pas arrivé à remonter au classement pendant la course car il est vraiment hyper difficile de doubler sur ce tracé très technique.
Nous avons ensuite fait le point avec mon ingénieur et revu les différentes options pour continuer d’améliorer le niveau de performance de notre Audi Sport Audi A1 Quattro Ice ; et nous avons trouvé une très bonne solution !
J’ai tout de suite ressenti la différence, la voiture était plus vite et plus facile à conduire, y compris pour mon équipier. Lors de la première séance qualificative, je mets une seconde au deuxième et je gagne la Super Pole ! Je m’élance devant et réalise des temps au tour très réguliers pour finalement gagner avec plus de sept secondes d’avance ; et une première victoire en Elite Pro.
C’est vraiment super de pouvoir gagner en Trophée Andros ; un grand merci à toute l’équipe Comtoyou Racing pour leur travail et soutient.
La prochaine manche se déroulera ce week-end à Serre Chevalier ; nous aurons 60 kg de lests mais nous allons tout faire pour nous battre aux avant-postes.
